Native Android App Development in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
We build native Android apps in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose and Material Design 3, tested across the phones, tablets and Android versions your customers actually use.
Android App Development
Android's strength is also its challenge. Your users may be on a flagship phone, a budget device with limited memory, a foldable or a tablet, each running a different Android version with manufacturer changes on top. An app that only gets tested on the developer's own phone often behaves differently in the real world, and the first users to notice are the ones leaving reviews.
We build in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, Google's modern toolkit for Android interfaces, following Material Design 3 so your app looks and behaves like users expect while still carrying your brand. The architecture follows Google's recommended approach with ViewModels, coroutines and a clear data layer, which makes the app easier to test and extend. We test on a range of real and virtual devices chosen from your audience, including smaller screens, older supported Android versions and large screens.
Firebase covers sign-in, analytics, crash reporting and push messaging when it fits, and Google Play Billing handles subscriptions and in-app purchases. ISOL Systems has built web products and APIs since 2010, so if your app needs to share accounts, orders or content with your website, we build that connection as part of the same project, led directly by our founder.
What You Get
Discovery and wireframes
User flows, a written feature list and clickable wireframes agreed with you before development, so the build has a clear finish line.
Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
The app is written in Kotlin with Compose for the interface, structured with ViewModels, coroutines and a separate data layer that can be tested and extended.
Material Design 3
Interfaces built on Material Design 3 components and theming, including dynamic color support where it suits your brand, and layouts that adapt to tablets and foldables.
Device fragmentation testing
Testing across a device matrix chosen from your audience: screen sizes, memory limits, supported Android versions and manufacturer skins, using real devices and emulators.
Firebase services
Firebase Authentication, Cloud Messaging, Analytics and Crashlytics where they fit, or connections to your own backend if you already have one.
Google Play Billing
One-time products and subscriptions through Play Billing, with purchase verification on a server, grace periods and account hold handled correctly.
Our Process
Brief and estimate
You share a short brief, we ask the questions that affect cost and return a fixed-price estimate with milestones.
Design
We create user flows, wireframes and Material-based interface designs and agree them with you in writing.
Build and test
We build in milestones and share test builds through Play Console testing tracks, testing across the agreed device matrix.
Launch and handover
We prepare the store listing and policy forms, release to production and hand over code, accounts and documentation.
Deliverables
- Feature spec, user flows and clickable wireframes
- Native Android source code in Kotlin and Compose, in a repository you own
- Device test matrix and test results for each milestone
- Signed Android App Bundle ready for Google Play
- Play Billing products and Firebase project configured under your accounts
- Handover document covering build, signing, services and release steps
Tools & Platforms
We pick tools for your project, not the other way round. If you already use a platform, we work inside it.
Android App Development: Questions Answered
What drives the cost of an Android app?
The number of screens and features, the backend work behind them, and integrations such as payments, maps, chat or hardware like Bluetooth. A wide device support range and tablet layouts also add testing time. We estimate from your brief and agree a fixed price before work starts.
How long does an Android app take?
A focused first version usually takes a few months from discovery to release, depending on scope. If you are using a new personal Google Play developer account, plan extra time for Google's required closed testing period before production access. We include that in the timeline so it does not catch you out.
Who owns the code and the Google Play account?
You do. We recommend you create the Google Play developer account in your name or your company's and invite us as users with the right permissions. The source code, signing configuration and Firebase project all sit under your ownership, and we document how they fit together.
Should I build native Android or a cross-platform app?
Native Kotlin makes sense when Android is your main platform, when you depend on deep device features or when performance on lower-end phones is critical. If you need iOS and Android together on one budget, React Native or Flutter can be more efficient. We recommend based on your users and features, and explain the trade-offs either way.
